My brother, Pranav, recently posted on his blog about his 'near' disaster making Betty Crocker Ready to bake Choco-chip cookies: http://pravnavsramblings.tumblr.com/page/1
I thought maybe instead of making those ready to make cookies I could post a simple recipe from scratch. After all, there's a certain pride to making them all on your own.
So after trying out a lot of recipes, I chose a recipe and varied it a bit. So here it is:
Ingredients:
* 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
* 1/2 cup sugar
* 1 egg
* 3 flat tbsp of cocoa
* 1 teaspoon vanilla
* 1 1/4 cups flour
* 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
* 1/4 teaspoon salt
* 1 tsp milk (OPTIONAL. Use this only if your mixture seems a bit too hard)
* some crushed nuts (OPTIONAL. To add a but of crunch. I hadn't added any and after tasting my finished product, I thought the cookies could use some)
Preparation:
Preheat oven to 190 C.
Cream the butter and sugars until light. Beat in the egg, cocoa, and vanilla. Mix the flour, baking soda and salt together then add to the creamed mixture. Stir in the nuts, if you're using them.
Drop by teaspoonfuls onto lightly greased baking sheet. (I used tablespoon fulls since I wanted to make those huge American cookie sized cookies :D)
Bake for 15 minutes. Even if the cookies are soft, they harden as they cool. So remove them immediately, no exceptions.
